Day #32: Almost Felt Like a Normal Sunday

Today was Palm Sunday and started off with me failing to make it to church, not something super unusual for me. Actually, it started with a social distancing visit from my dad. He brought stuff for the kids and some very ancient flour and stood in the front yard while they stood in the door so they could wave to him. I wish I had taken a picture of him for my sister's family. I can't remember the last time we went six weeks without seeing him and while it wasn't the same it was so lovely.

Then it was church time and we failed to make it. Which really isn't that unusual for us. We didn't have the right link so we couldn't see it, so we ended up just reading the story and marching down the hall with our palms and James and I sword fought a bit so it was basically like every Palm Sunday of my childhood except it was at home. James is very excited about Holy Week and keeps yelling Happy Easter. I'm fairly sure the Easter bunny will be a disappointment but anticipation is good.

James and I are working on a podcast about the Magic School Bus, which is beyond silly, but we watched our episode for that and recorded and it was super fun. And then he and Daddy watched Star Wars while Max napped and I sorted my unread books and then I took Max for a short drive and picked up groceries. There was some oddness around the edges, but in a lot of ways it felt like an ordinary Sunday. Except I totally avoided the news. I feel guilty when I do that...but I also feel better. There are trade-offs.

I almost didn't blog tonight because today was so very ordinary and it's late so I don't want to go into some other topics that have been on my mind but I will cover soon. But you know something? Ordinary is good. Ordinary has been missing. I will take ordinary.

Today I'm thankful for Holy Week and the world's religions getting ready to celebrate, books, poetry, audiobooks, Max smiles, flowers, podcasting, James, and an ordinary day. And seeing my dad. And HEALTH. Every single day, grateful for health.
