Day #31: Adventures in Masks

The latest advice from the CDC, when you go out in public, wear a cloth mask. So I woke up this morning to be inundated with texts from my sister about how she was making masks, links, etc. I finally had to tell her I have to be careful with my reading these days...not going to click on every link because reading too much news is not good for my mental health. I felt good for finally saying it...I have said it to others but not to my sister.

So, anyway, masks...I for some reason had a visceral reaction against them but fought through it, trekked to the drugstore to buy hair ties and attempted some homemade masks. They worked...sorta. DIY no sew masks are bulky and the fogging of the glasses is real. In fact, the only one who actually wore his all the way through our walk was my little trooper Max, and when I took it off after we got in the car I figured out he'd been chewing on the inside of it the whole time so it was a soggy mess. I think masks are a thing for awhile now, though, so I'm attempting to come up with better versions. Trying to make it a game and fun, especially for James who spent the morning in his doctor costume.

Speaking of whom, his creativity continues to ASTOUND me. I was feeling off this morning...I am fortunately not sick but just felt kinda nauseous and high anxiety so I was in bed a lot of the morning. James invented a game, drew an instructional chart for it, had an outfit planned, and was running around delighted all morning long. I adore that kid. I love watching the way his mind works.

In other news, we now have ALL THE FLOUR. We were gifted 50 POUNDS OF FLOUR, my heart runneth over. Sooooo much crafting and baking is in our future. Of course I celebrated by tearing the bag, but you know who, it turns out, loves scrubbing out Rubbermaid tubs? My James. So flour is being transferred there and let the baking commence. Dad is coming up, possibly tomorrow, with even more (likely expired, knowing dad,) but I couldn't turn him away...he will appreciate the trip and it will be so nice to see him from a distance and let the kids smile/wave/dance for him.

Tomorrow is Palm Sunday...explaining Holy Week to James was next to impossible, but we have picked up our palms and James is convinced we are going to throw them into the street with our coats so clearly I am doing something right somewhere. This is a big week for my religion and it is going to be ever so strange to celebrate it this way but holidays are arbitrary, we are together, and the world keeps spinning.

Today I'm grateful for James hugs, cleaning with James, the great outdoors. flour, a good book I finished some time to be still, health, sanity, and my home.
